Local Opportunity
Dear Abby
It is a woman asking/pleading to get help as she is
struggling with a relationship and suicide, as well as money being a problem to
where she can’t afford to get help from a medical professional. So, she writes a
writer who then posts the story as well as a quick solution for her.
This is a very common
problem today as people are struggling more and more with depression and
relationships. Suicide is becoming the solution that come to many minds. People
feel neglected and like they can’t turn to anyone.
This can be a problem for anyone and a very serious one. In
this case it belongs to a young lesbian woman. Who may have it even worse as
she could be the outcast of her family for being lesbian, and, may feel like
she can’t turn to them.
Solar Farm To Shine
It is a story going over the FPL and its attempt to become a
real competitor in the natural energy world. It has lagged for a long time and
is now going to be playing the catch-up game, but it also must think about the
environment. It can’t just plop these farms anywhere and how they want it must
be done in a way that doesn’t harm the environment.
There are a few problems presented in this article I think
the most important, however is there attempting to make these solar farms
without destroying the wildlife nearby and making it where that land is still
usable in 30 years when the farm is set to be either recommissioned or
destroyed and turned back to nature or agriculture.
The problem is mostly for FPL as they are the ones trying to
figure out the solution to become a solar power leader, while not destroying
the environment, but this in the long run influences all Floridians. As we are
the ones paying the electric bill at the end of the day, and we must live with
the environmental consequences.
Cash-strapped B-CU
announces layoffs, furloughs, pay cuts
A local college is in debt and is in danger of having to be
shutdown. Resulting from a variety of issues. They are attempting a few
different tricks to fix the problems, but students and faculty lives are at
stake.
Bethune Cookman is in debt after poor estimating on there
part, overspending, and fraud being committed by the past president and upper
level officials.
The problem spreads across too many individuals from the
students to faculty even local businesses! The students are in risk of losing their
place of upper level education, which is for predominantly black population,
also how does this affect alumni degrees and the value of the degree? Faculty is
in trouble as they could lose their jobs and livelihoods. Finally, businesses
around the school benefit from college students going to party eat out and so
forth if the school shuts those businesses will lose out and may struggle in
the long run too.
Sears lives, but area
store still closing - Volusia Mall location will shutter in March as more than
400 nationwide remain open
It's about Sears and how a local store will be shutting down
soon. Also, some recap on the efforts by the CEO of Sears to save the company
from going completely under. That store will be closing, and jobs will be lost,
but the efforts of the CEO managed to same thousands of other jobs.
The problem presented in this story is the losing of jobs
for Sears employees, but as a local I understand that there is a lot more going
on behind the scene here that is even more concerning. That mall has been
struggling in the past years with many stores leaving and now with Sears
leaving the mall will be losing lots of income and will most likely fallow suit
behind sears.
All store owners and the mall owners will be greatly
affected as Sears leaves the mall might get fewer visitors, which means less opportunity
for other stores there. All in all it could lead to a dominoes affect of stores
closing and eventually the whole mall closing.
State 3rd in car
insurance rates - Drivers’ bills among top 3 in nation under no-fault system,
but will lawmakers act?
The story is covering Florida’s use of the PIP system and
the no fault system, and how it costs drivers more money a year, and still
offers less coverage to both the drivers and other people on the streets. In a
sense if you have personal coverage insurance you are having to pay for it
twice. The system is outdated, expensive and useless.
The problem is lawmakers haven’t made a move to bring Florida
into the present, and it is costing the residents over a billion dollars a
year. As well as the prices 26% of Florida drivers don’t offer any insurance if
in an accident.
This is a serious problem, it is costing residents lots of
money a year. It would also increase the number of insured drivers in the
state. Right now, if you got into an accident even if not at fault you could
really come out of the situation in financial disaster.
Richard,
ReplyDeleteThe Dear Abby opportunity you saw hits home for me. It's unfortunate that people can't get medical care easily, especially for things like depression and anxiety that don't manifest in the same ways that other sicknesses do. It is nice to know that people are becoming more aware and trying to be supportive through these difficult times. Professional medical care would obviously be the best, but having friends and family that are there for you during hard times is equally as important.
Great post Richard! I found the FPL opportunity very interesting. It’s time for us as a society to begin more sustainable practices. Maintaining the environment should be of the highest priority for FPL. At the same time they must think about their customers and bring them an affordable product. I also thought your Dear Abby Post was interesting as well. Suicide is a serious problem in today’s world and should not be taken lightly.
